If you are planning on sewing lower-body clothing (a pencil skirt, shorts, pants…), such body measurement as the hip girth is of great importance, but sometimes you may need to measure both the height and girth of the hips.
Let’s use a flexible measuring tape to take the measurements.
Step 1. Stand in front of a mirror. It’s best to be dressed in something tight-fitting or in your underwear.
Step 2. Put your feet together.
Step 3. Look closely and find the widest part of the hip area.
Step 4. Wrap the measuring tape around that area. It should be parallel to the floor, not too tight or too loose. Look in the mirror and check that everything is right.
Step 5. Write down the measurement.
Or you can find the infrabuttock crease, move the measuring tape up two inches and wrap around the hips with the tape parallel to the floor.
To know your half girth measurement just divide the hip girth by two.
Before taking any other body measurement, take the same steps as you did before measuring your hips. Get to know your body.
To find out your hips height, place the tape along the side and measure from the waistline to the hips.
It’s not difficult, trust me!
