Today I decided to tell you how to insert a needle into a sewing machine. This process is very important, as you surely can’t sew without a needle. You can find a great variety of needles and sewing machines, so how to start correctly? I will help you with it and you will quickly master this process.
The type and number of the needle should be changed depending on the fabric with which you plan to sew your product. If the needle was damaged, it should also be replaced, so that the stitch would be even and the needle won’t ruin the fabric. The needle should also be swapped for a different one depending on the theme of the project and the equipment used.
The key to even stitches and a nice, well-fitted workpiece is definitely a properly selected, undamaged needle. Step by step, I will show you how to insert a needle in a sewing machine. It is very easy.
I have a domestic Singer sewing machine, the needle of which has a flat back at the shank.
Step 1. Turn off the sewing machine.
Step 2. Lift up the needle by turning the handwheel.
Step 3. You can remove the presser foot for convenience.
Step 4. Undo the needle clamp screw (not completely) with one hand while holding the needle with your other hand.
If it is difficult to untwist it with your hands you can use a screwdriver, which comes with a sewing machine in a set of accessories.
Step 5. After loosening the needle pull it out from the needle clamp.
Step 6. Hold a new needle with the flat side away from yourself and with the rounded side facing you.
Step 7. Insert the needle into the needle clamp.
Step 8. Push it upwards as far as it can go, then tighten the needle clamp screw.
Step 9. Thread the needle from the front side, lower the presser foot and you’re all set.
Here, in a couple of steps, you have inserted the needle and are ready to go. After completing some more preparatory processes with the machine you would be able to begin sewing.
Try it and you will succeed!
